Getting to the HF BAR Ranch is a bit of a journey, but well worth it! Here are some instructions for getting here from different directions. Remember, we are just a phone call away if you need us!
From Denver
Take Interstate 25 northwards to Buffalo. Follow signs for Rock Creek Road (Exit 53) Take a left at the bottom of the exit ramp and travel for approximately 3 1/2 miles to the juncture of Rock Creek Road and Johnson Creek Road. Take a right onto Rock Creek Road and follow it approximately 7 miles to the H F Bar gate (the road will have turned to gravel from pavement about 1/2 way there). The Ranch buildings are exactly 2 miles from the gate. At the swimming pool, the road forks. Take either fork and park and follow signs to the Ranch Office for check-in. The trip from Denver to the H F Bar is 4oo miles (6 1/2 hours).
From Billings
When leaving the Billings airport, follow 27th Street southwards out of town to I-90 eastbound. Follow I-90 east approximately 5 miles, at which point follow signs to Sheridan, Wyoming. Follow I-90 past Sheridan about 28 miles past to Shell Creek (Exit 47). At the bottom of the ramp, take a right onto a gravel road for approximately 1 1/2 miles until you intersect hitw Shell Creek Road. Take a left and follow Shell Creek Road up and down and around for about 7 m iles until you come to a “T” with Rock Creek Road. Turn right on Rock Creek Road and follow for almost 3 miles until you see the H F Bar Ranch gate directly ahead of you.The Ranch buildings are situated two miles from the gate. The trip from Billings to the H F Bar is approximately 165 miles (2 1/2 hours).
From Buffalo
From the middle of town take Fort Street west until you pass the IGA. Immediately after, take a right onto DeSmet Avenue and follow it straight out of town where it becomes French Creek Road. Stay on French Creek Road exactly 12.5 miles (about 6 of which will be pavement and 6 1/2 will be gravel). Pass the Bud Love Winter Elk Feeding Range and the UM Ranch, go up a hill and at the bottom the road will intersect with Rock Creek Road. The Ranch gate will be to your left. The buildings are two miles from the gate. The trip from Buffalo to the H F Bar is 12.5 miles (25 minutes).
Airports
The airport that is closest to the Ranch is in Sheridan, Wyoming (SHR). Great Lakes Airline services Sheridan through Denver, Colorado and Billings, Montana. The Ranch car will pick up passengers flying into Sheridan (35 miles from the Ranch). We, also, recommend flying into Billings, Montana and renting a car. The airlines that service Billings are United, Delta, Northwest, Sky West and Big Sky. The drive from Billings to the Ranch is approximately 2 1/2 hours. See above for directions. You may, also, fly into Casper Wyoming or into Gillette, Wyoming and drive to the Ranch from either of those cities. Both are about 1 1/2 hour drives on Interstate 25 and 90, respectively.
