Join us at our ranch in the rugged beauty of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains to find renewal, burn some serious calories, center yourself, and enjoy the fresh air and western lifestyle of one of the oldest Wyoming guest ranches. Our Wyoming guest ranch offers fitness opportunities in addition to our regular activities. Besides the typical vacation at the HF Bar Ranch, your stay can include a variety of fitness opportunities, healthy low-fat meals, hikes, massages, and quiet free time all in our relaxed, rustic setting. We are confident that you will return home from the Ranch feeling renewed and refreshed, and ready to conquer any job, family or personal fitness plan.
All HF Bar Ranch guests are provided complimentary morning coffee or choice of tea to enjoy in your cabin or on your porch well before the breakfast bell rings. A daily schedule is offered with variety and flexibility to allow just the right combination of structure and relaxation. Fitness activities include : hiking, biking, running and horseback riding and afternoon Yoga classes. Massages can be scheduled at your convenience. Our massage therapists will work magic on your well-used muscles. There will also be evening activities to add to your options: guest speakers, movies, cookouts, hayrides and campfires. Of course, your vacation is meant to be rejuvenating, as well as invigorating, so free time is always an option. Here are some of the highlights:
HORSEBACK RIDING
We have over 220 horses of varying abilities and strengths to match every level of experienced rider- from beginner on up. See the mountains from a different viewpoint (and let the horse do all the work for a change!). So many people develop a fine relationship with their horse, after a few rides, and there is nothing like looking out over the land here to make you feel like anything is possible.
HIKING
The ranch is filled with excellent trails that will take you on a fast- paced track or up to breath-taking summits. Hikes vary in length and intensity from full day expeditions to brief treks. All our trails lead to places of unmatched beauty while immersing you in the natural, wild terrain of Wyoming. Spot a bald eagle, find a fossil, or pick a bunch of blue lupine to bring back to your cabin. We have a daily planned hike, but there are lots of people who have been scrambling through these hills for years who will, happily, lead a group. Hike with Margi…known for always taking the least travelled route, coming home late and have a blast with everyone she hikes with!!
SPEED WALKING
Want to be out in the fresh air, talking with a friend, and burning calories and not have to put on your hiking boots? This timeless exercise will change the way you think of walking. Combined with conscious breathing techniques and a high-paced speed your legs and lungs will feel the tingle of life.
TRAIL RUNNING
Pick up the pace and push your personal best on our winding trails. We’ll run hills, jog across level mesas and maybe splash through a creek or two! High impact bounding builds bone density and strong muscles. Lots of the college kids who are on our staff are happy to lead an in-shape, fun group!
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Bikes are available (locally, or rent) to take you out into the hills. We have people who will take you on a scenic and fast tour of some pretty intense terrain. Some experience is necessary for this activity. Arrangements can be made through the Ranch Office.
FLY FISHING
On the Ranch we are lucky to have our very own Orvis-endorsed fly fishing shop stocked with some of the finest guides you’ll meet, not to mention 15 miles of pristine creek fishing on Rock Creek that you can fish on your own! Just remember it is all fly-fishing and catch-and-release! The Kids’ Team has an on-staff fishing guide to help teach youngsters how to cast, put on a fly and and, safely, get out into the stream for a first of many catches.
LOW ROPES CHALLENGE COURSE
A physical challenge, as well as a mental one, we take groups though this course to push themselves and learn more about boundaries, leadership, communication, cooperation, self-esteem, strength/weakness, and goal-making. The course consists of 10 elements that present the group with a physical challenge that must be confronted together. Some elements are very physical and deal with issues of balance and strength and others are solved with more creative thinking and planning. Great fun and a memorable experience!
MASSAGE THERAPY
Our massage therapists are certified and experienced in many different forms of healing including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, raindrop therapy, hot stone therapy and ionic foot cleansing. We have a private massage cabin, “The Nook”, sitting on the banks of Rock Creek to let the natural calming sound of the water aid in your relaxation. Massages and ionic foot baths can be arranged for in your cabin of you have more than two people and prior arrangements are made through the Ranch Office.
SWIMMING POOL
The HF Bar Ranch pool is a good option anytime.….providing sun and shade. It is heated for those cold morning dips. Swim laps or just float on your back and watch the sunset while soaking in the clear blue water. Take the opportunity to work specific muscle groups without the impact that land activities create. There are plenty of floats and “pool toys” around for the kids. Don’t forget! We are 5,280 feet high and the sun is strong!!
MOVIES
We offer a wide variety of films for your evening relaxation and enjoyment. These are shown in the Little Dining Room or on the big screen on the Ranch House Porch. Cuddle up in a big quilt outside to watch a bigger-than-life “Harry Potter” “Into the Wild” or “The Man From Snowy River” and its sequel.
HAYRIDES
Every Saturday night after dinner, hop on board the hay wagon and we’ll take you for a ride over hills and through pastures to end your day around a cozy campfire. With the Big Horn Mountains surrounding you, there is no better way to end the day! We will bring your bottle of wine and have coffee, lemonade and s’mores fixngs—–eat as many as you dare!!
COOKOUTS
A nice change of pace for a meal, the Friday evening cookout offers the same healthy options as an indoor dinner, with the added pleasure of a cook-fire and picnic tables. We have got the best barbecued ribs and chicken this side of anywhere! Add a little fresh berry shortcake and you are in heaven! Of course, we’ll make sure your wine bottle comes along to the cookout.
YOGA
Several times a week the Ranch has yoga classes taught by certified instructors in our Club House. Come stretch and limber up before dinner.
